#EndSARS: No Nigerian should be punished for demanding good governance, Obi says

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, marked the sixth anniversary of the October 20, 2020, Lekki Toll Gate shootings by saying no Nigerian should be punished for demanding good governance. He recalled that peaceful #EndSARS protesters were met with gunfire, leaving people dead and injured, and urged Nigerians never to normalise injustice. Obi reaffirmed his vision of a “New Nigeria” where citizens are protected, young people are heard and human rights are respected. A 2021 Lagos State judicial panel report found that soldiers fired on unarmed protesters and identified at least 48 people who were shot, injured or assaulted.
