1,314 protesters arrested in France over unrest

Police arrested 1,314 people during Saturday’s protests across France, and 53 officers were injured in clashes, the interior ministry said. Demonstrations over the high cost of living were accompanied by 75 fires and the looting of 24 shops. Protesters were also injured in Toulouse, Clermont-Ferrand and Poitiers, including a 20-year-old man who suffered a serious hand injury in Toulouse. The ministry said several investigations had been opened but did not establish whether the injuries were caused by police weapons.
