Iran executes three men linked to anti-government protests

Iranian authorities executed Hassan Divband, Hamid Kazemi and Reza Zanganeh, who were convicted of carrying out operations on behalf of Israel, the United States and hostile groups during January’s protests. The judiciary said they threw Molotov cocktails and grenades, used bladed weapons and firearms, and set fire to public facilities in Karaj. The Supreme Court upheld their death sentences, while other defendants received prison terms of five to 10 years. Iranian authorities reported more than 3,000 deaths during the unrest, while foreign-based NGOs reported a higher toll and said security forces fired on protesters.
