DRC: Mfumbwa linked to lower risk of diabetic retinopathy, according to a study

A study conducted in Kinshasa found that not consuming Mfumbwa (Gnetum africanum) increases the likelihood of developing diabetic retinopathy by 2.8 times. The plant, rich in antioxidants, is associated with a lower incidence of this diabetic complication. The original 2012 study published in PLOS One involved 195 participants but does not establish that Mfumbwa prevents or cures retinopathy, as it is an observational and older study.
