Lawan Ahmed Mohammed emerges 17th Emir of Gumel

Dr Lawan Ahmed Mohammed, the first son of the late Emir of Gumel, has been appointed the 17th Emir of Gumel Emirate by Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi. The selection process involved voting among nine candidates, with three withdrawing from the contest. Dr Lawan, who previously held the title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at NITDA, succeeds his father who passed away on September 3, 2026, after a 46-year reign.
