2027: INEC moves to address electoral risks in Ebonyi

Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ebonyi State held an electoral risk management workshop in Abakaliki for media representatives, security agencies and local government electoral officers. Participants identified threats including the theft or destruction of election materials, the abduction of election officials and the inaccessibility of some communities. State Administrative Secretary Joan Onyibor warned that unmanaged risks could disrupt voting, endanger voters and officials, and undermine public confidence. Resident Electoral Commissioner Pauline Ugochi Onyeka urged stakeholders to anticipate threats and strengthen cooperation and information-sharing ahead of the January and February 2027 general elections.
