Trump announces $15bn steel mill project in Iowa before US midterms

Just weeks before the US midterm elections, President Donald Trump announced that a Minnesota-based steel manufacturer plans to build a $15 billion steel mill in Iowa. The project is expected to start production in 2030 and create over 1,700 jobs, with an initial capacity of 7.5 million tonnes per year. The first phase of construction will generate 5,000 to 6,000 jobs. The plant will use iron ore from Minnesota's Mesabi Iron Range, owned by Indian conglomerate Essar Group. Trump emphasized that the project fulfills his promise to rebuild American industry, support local communities, and enhance national security.
