At least 49 people have died and around a hundred others are being treated in southern Nigeria after consuming a local herbal alcoholic drink known as 'Monkey trail', suspected of containing methanol. Banji Ajaka, the health commissioner of Ondo State, reported that 182 people may have been affected in the local communities of Odigbo and Irele. The consumption of locally produced alcohol is common in rural areas of Nigeria.
