East of the DRC: over 1700 weapon-injured patients treated by the ICRC in the first half of 2026

In the first half of 2026, the ICRC treated 1,771 weapon-injured patients in the East of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, particularly in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. Additionally, 116,166 curative consultations were conducted, and 687 victims of sexual violence received medical and psychosocial support. The crisis also led to the separation of many families, with 198 children reunited with their relatives and 2,768 phone calls facilitated. The ICRC calls for respect for international humanitarian law to protect civilians and facilitate access to aid.
