Ruto Directs TSC to Increase Teacher Promotions to 50,000

President William Ruto has directed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to increase teacher promotions for the 2026-27 financial year from 34,000 to 50,000. The TSC had already advertised 34,016 promotion slots with about Ksh2 billion allocated, but additional funds will be made available. The new promotion guidelines focus on structured career progression and standardized assessment, considering discipline and years of service. Ruto also announced that over 20,000 junior secondary school teachers who have served more than two years under contract will be transitioned to permanent and pensionable employment starting January 2027.
