DA begins coalition talks as 16 Western Cape councils remain hung

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has begun preparing for coalition negotiations after winning 418 council seats and about 54% of the vote across the Western Cape’s 25 municipalities. The party’s Federal Executive decided on November 7 to start discussions with political parties in municipalities where no party won an outright majority. The DA has majorities in nine municipalities, while 16 councils remain hung and require support from other parties to form administrations. The ANC won 130 seats and the Patriotic Alliance 91.
