Drone strike kills at least 21 and injures 40 in Sudan’s Nyala

At least 21 people were killed and 40 injured in a drone strike on a market in northern Nyala, Darfur, on Monday evening, AFP reported, citing a medical source and witnesses. A resident said the attack occurred at about 8pm local time, and a doctor at Nyala Hospital confirmed the toll on Tuesday. The market was frequented by armed men, particularly Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters. Sudan’s military, at war with the RSF since April 2023, regularly strikes Nyala, where the RSF has established an administration rivaling the internationally recognised government in Khartoum.

Adalah reported efforts to discourage Arab voters, slow or halted queues at polling stations in Arab-majority towns, and a shortage of ballot slips printed in Arabic; it referred the reports to election committees.
