Alone in Gaza: Genocide leaves Palestinian man without family or a home

Mahmoud Khalla, 40, visits the cemetery every morning to mourn relatives killed in an Israeli strike on their family home in Jabalia on December 21, 2023. His wife, three children, parents, siblings and other relatives were among the 39 people killed when the five-storey building was destroyed. Mahmoud had left to look for food and is the only surviving member of his family. He says he rushed back after hearing the explosion and, with neighbours, tried to rescue anyone who might be trapped beneath the rubble.
