Ice hockey federation reiterates opposition to reinstatement of Russia

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) maintains its disagreement with the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to reinstate Russian teams, which were excluded after Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The IIHF warned that their return would create significant practical and sporting challenges involving visas, security, logistics and competition formats. Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Latvia and Finland have said their teams would not play Russia at next year’s men’s World Championships in Germany. Main sponsor Škoda Auto said it would reassess its support for the tournament if Russia takes part.
