Ruto Appoints New Chairs to Military Veterans and Social Protection Boards

President William Ruto appointed retired Major General William Karisa Shume as the new chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans for a four-year term starting August 28, 2026. Shume succeeds Lucas Kyonze Tumbo and will lead committee meetings and advise the Defence Council on national policies regarding military veterans. Additionally, Cecilia Mbaka has been appointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Board for Social Protection for three years, also effective August 28, 2026.
