2027: Hashim Movement targets 3 million votes in the South-West

Alhaji Abass Olaniyi, South-West coordinator of the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM), says the group is targeting more than three million votes for Accord Party presidential candidate Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim in Nigeria’s 2027 general election. Its projections assign more than one million votes to Osun and a combined 1.5 million to Lagos and Oyo, with Ogun, Ondo and Ekiti expected to provide the rest. Olaniyi says the target depends on grassroots outreach to community leaders, youth groups, political stakeholders and local organisations.

Obi Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, traditional ruler of the Onitsha Kingdom, said at the Ofala Festival on Friday at Ezechima Square that it was delusional to place all hopes in the government. Citing the 2026 theme, “Igbambo, Iganiru” (“strive and advance”), he urged people to endure hardship and legally pursue their own causes. Achebe also called on Nigerians, particularly people in the South-East, to participate in the coming elections and said the Osun State governorship election should serve as a benchmark for the 2027 general elections. He urged political parties to reject violence and non-partisan groups to step up efforts to promote free and fair polls.

2027: Step down if you are not working for Tinubu, Adeyanju tells Peter Obi and Kwankwaso

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju urged Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, and his running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso to quit the 2027 race if they are not working for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. In a post on X, Adeyanju said their withdrawal would convince him they were no longer backing Tinubu, as he accused them of doing in 2023, and urged Nigerians not to vote for them. Kwankwaso countered that Obi’s popularity in the South and mobilisation of support in the North were keeping Tinubu awake at night. Kwankwaso also said he had asked Fulani groups to persuade African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Atiku Abubakar to withdraw.
