Patients at Bishop Lavis Community Health Centre gather outside from 5am, two hours before the facility opens at 7am. Elderly people, mothers with babies and wheelchair users wait outdoors in harsh weather and in the dark. Graham Lindhorst, chairperson of the Bishop Lavis Community Police Forum and a member of the Tygerburg Subdistrict Health Forum, says the queues occur daily and the area is dangerous. He is calling on the provincial Department of Health and Wellness to address waiting times and long-standing service-delivery concerns.
