Touba: Silakoro at the Heart of a Project to Preserve Vernacular Earthen Architecture

The village of Silakoro, about 15 kilometres from Touba in the Bafing region, hosted a field visit on 27 October 2026 for a project to restore earthen architecture and revive mural paintings. Led by the Bâtir et Développer-Club UNESCO association, the initiative aims to preserve threatened buildings, pass on ancestral skills and highlight women’s role in conservation. A delegation headed by architect Amélie Essessé met village authorities and prepared the project’s second phase, including a training worksite on restoration, natural renders and mural painting. Partners Véronique Henry and Fanny Cohen also took part in the visit.
