Norway's King Harald dies aged 89 as son Haakon takes the throne

King Harald of Norway passed away in the early hours of Friday at the age of 89 after 35 years on the throne. Thousands of Norwegians gathered outside the Royal Palace to pay tribute to the late king, while his son, King Haakon VIII, officially ascended the throne. Harald had been treated for a rare blood condition at the national hospital in Oslo.
