Delta State Government Threatens Contractor over Delayed Projects

Delta State Works Commissioner Reuben Izeze criticized the contractor responsible for the Orere River Bridge and the rehabilitation of the Edjekota–Ewu–Orere Road over slow progress. During an inspection in Ughelli South, he condemned what he described as sporadic, staged activity at the sites and warned that he would recommend action to state officials if conditions did not improve. The bridge contract, awarded in 2021 for N9.85 billion, was later revised to N32.45 billion; the road contract was awarded in September 2026 for N6.92 billion and is due for completion in March 2028. Izeze said both projects had exceeded their expected timelines and must progress so residents of Orere and Ewu can benefit.
