In DRC, former president Kabila now leads a rebellion

Joseph Kabila now leads the Front for the Rebirth of the Nation (FRN), a new politico-military movement formed after the official dissolution of the Alliance of the Congo River (AFC) and the March 23 Movement (M23). He has allied with leaders of the M23, a group accused by the UN of massacres, sexual violence, kidnappings, and child recruitment. The FRN was announced in Goma, controlled by M23 since January 2025, with Kabila as president and three vice-presidents from the former coalition.
