Burundi: Fashion show promotes clothing made from recycled materials

In Bujumbura, the “THE KAMENGE DROP” fashion show presented clothing made from recycled materials as part of Green Diplomacy Week 2026. Around ten young designers turned waste, including mosquito nets, bags and phone accessories, into sustainable fashion. Burundian artist Manuela Minka urged people to see waste differently and protect the Earth. The event also aimed to encourage a change in attitudes toward environmental protection.

Cape Town is considering water restrictions as dam levels decline and authorities assess the risk of a hotter, drier summer. Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina told Parliament that modelling is under way to determine whether restrictions or other demand-management measures are needed across the Western Cape Water Supply System. Two storms slam northern Europe, cutting power to 150,000 homes

Storms Boelo and Austen swept across northern Europe within 24 hours, killing one person and leaving more than 150,000 homes in the United Kingdom, France and Germany without power. In Scotland, a falling tree killed a 60-year-old man and injured two women; winds reaching 135 km/h also blocked roads and rail lines. Nearly 59,000 homes in France remained without electricity on Sunday, while a blackout in Freiburg-Breisgau, Germany, disrupted mobile phone service and forced the main hospital to limit care to emergencies. Authorities warned of flood risks and urged people to stay indoors because of flying debris and crashing waves.
