Governor Fintiri relaxes curfew in Adamawa communities affected by violence

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has relaxed the curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area, allowing residents to move between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., with restrictions in force from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The change follows sustained calm and improved security after recurring land-related clashes between the Bachama and Tshobo communities. Fintiri urged residents to obey the curfew and called on local leaders, youth groups and women’s groups to promote peace and dialogue. Since July 2025, the violence has killed dozens and destroyed homes and vehicles; nine women died during protests in December 2025, and renewed clashes in March and April caused further casualties and the destruction of hundreds of houses.

Coastal Road: ‘I’m a local champion; you’re a pretender’ — Gov. Diri replies to Duke

Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri called Donald Duke a “jester and pretender” after the former Cross River governor said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway was unfeasible because of its cost and Bayelsa’s terrain. Duke had described Diri as a “local champion” in an interview on Arise Television. In a viral video, Diri embraced the label, saying he was elected to defend local people, and faulted Duke for doing nothing when Bakassi was ceded from Nigeria. Diri defended the development potential of coastal communities and thanked the president for backing the road project, which he said could address poverty and the dehumanising conditions faced by the region.

“The FRN’s creation: statements on one side and silence on the other show the complexity of Joseph Kabila’s choice,” says Me Jean Claude Katende

On the program “A Look at the Week’s News,” Me Jean Claude Katende says that conflicting statements and silence surrounding the creation of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) demonstrate the complexity of Joseph Kabila’s choice. The program also examines stalled peace processes in eastern DR Congo, where meetings and discussions have brought no change on the ground. It further reports on the temporary suspension of new admissions to Makala Central Prison, which holds at least 16,155 people despite being designed for 1,500, including 303 women and 201 minors.
