Twenty-one bodies were found on Lompoul beach in the Kébémer department after a pirogue carrying people seeking to emigrate ran aground on Friday, November 6. The first bodies were discovered near Tébène 2 in the commune of Thiéppe, followed by further discoveries in the Tébène area and the Potou Saradao sector. Gendarmes and firefighters are continuing search operations, and the bodies have been taken to the Kébémer health district for identification. Unconfirmed reports say most victims may have come from Léona and Thiéppe; the number of passengers and the pirogue’s point of departure are still unknown.
