Ogo-Eze schools in ruins: Pupils sit on the floor amid reptiles

In Ogo-Eze, the communities of Ogodobiri and Ezebiri in Nigeria’s Delta State, pupils at the primary and secondary schools learn on bare floors or a few dilapidated desks in buildings crawling with insects and reptiles. Ogodobiri community chairman Koboye Benin and community leader Archbishop Stephen Overy are calling for desks, renovated buildings and more teachers. PTA chairman Jeremiah Gougou says the secondary school has only three or four teachers and lacks staff for core subjects including mathematics, English, chemistry and biology. Community leaders are urging the state government to intervene urgently.
