DRC: JED calls for journalists to be protected from Ebola misinformation

Journaliste en danger (JED) presented its 2026 annual report in Kinshasa on November 2, urging stronger protection for journalists and reliable access to information during the Ebola outbreak. The report describes pressure on the media, including threats, restricted access to sources and financially vulnerable newsrooms; it cites a radio station being forced off air in Mwenga and the detention of two media professionals in Kalemie in September. JED recommends a national journalist-protection mechanism, independent investigations into violence against media workers, and fair access to health and budget data. It also calls for transparency and listening to communities’ concerns, rather than attributing distrust solely to social media or silencing journalists.

Tedros warned that unequal access to vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic cost lives and prolonged the crisis.
