Libya: At least 31 people executed by Haftar’s forces, says HRW

Human Rights Watch reports that at least 31 people have been executed since late August in eastern Libya, controlled by forces loyal to Marshal Khalifa Haftar, and says around 50 other detainees face imminent execution. On August 23, Haftar’s military prosecutor announced that ten people had been executed by firing squad; at least 21 others were reportedly killed afterward. Human rights groups condemn closed military trials, alleged confessions extracted through torture, and a lack of adequate judicial safeguards. Amnesty International says some families were not informed of the executions and were unable to recover their relatives’ bodies.
