Kenya confirms ninth Ebola case amid concerns about regional spread

Kenya has confirmed a ninth Ebola case: a 24-year-old man who was already in quarantine and was isolated and treated as soon as his positive test was confirmed. He is a close relative of Kenya’s first patient, who died in a Nairobi hospital on October 5 after travelling from the DRC through Uganda. All nine cases belong to the same cluster, with no evidence of transmission outside it; eight patients are stable, and 134 of 135 contacts have been traced and quarantined. Authorities say many contacts may return home from October 25, and Kenya has imposed no restrictions on travel, trade or public gatherings.
