Police boost deployments at Western Cape hotspots ahead of November 4 elections
Western Cape police have sent additional officers to crime hotspots, transport hubs and taxi routes ahead of Wednesday, November 4, local elections, amid concerns that violence could put voters at risk. Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Sizakhele Dyantyi said planned leave had been cancelled to keep officers available on the ground, while intelligence teams monitor potential criminal activity. Police operations will protect voting stations and retain capacity to respond to taxi and gang violence. Recent deadly shootings have affected Hanover Park, Delft, Khayelitsha, Gugulethu, Mfuleni, Lavender Hill and Nyanga, but police have not disclosed the specific locations receiving extra officers.
