A Town in Kenya where the first airplane in East Africa was built

Maktau, a small town in Kenya, is where the first airplane in East Africa was assembled during World War I. This site, which housed British military barracks, witnessed the first operational reconnaissance flight on October 12, 1914. Despite its historical significance, Maktau has received little attention from successive Kenyan governments. The first test flights began on October 1, 1914, but challenging weather conditions often made flying hazardous.
