At least 16 people died in a shipwreck on the Kasaï River near the village of Nsamwale while a boat was transporting 201 passengers to Kinshasa. The vessel hit a rock after drifting for nearly an hour due to a motor failure. 185 survivors have been accounted for, and search efforts continue. Provincial deputy Lucien Kempile highlighted the challenges of safe navigation in the Maï-Ndombe province.
