Ethiopia: Armed Groups Unite Against Abiy Ahmed's Federal Government

Seven armed groups in Ethiopia have announced the formation of an alliance to overthrow Abiy Ahmed's federal government, as stated by Emmanuel Assefa, vice president of the Tigray People's Liberation Front. This coalition includes forces from Tigray, Amhara, and Oromia, as well as groups from the Somali, Afar, Ogaden, and Benishangul-Gumuz regions. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed accuses the TPLF of aligning with several armed groups, including the Fano, who fought alongside federal forces during the Tigray war, which resulted in at least 600,000 deaths between 2020 and 2022.
