Kilimanjaro fire, now contained, destroys 1,800 hectares

Tanzanian authorities have announced that the fire that raged on Mount Kilimanjaro for nearly two weeks has finally been contained. A multi-agency team of firefighters, conservation authorities, tourism stakeholders, and local communities battled strong winds and highly flammable vegetation to extinguish the fire, which consumed over 18 square kilometers (1,800 hectares) of vegetation.
