Cemac: With FCFA 11,017 billion in Treasury securities, BVMAC struggles to attract government borrowing

As of September 30, 2026, public securities issued by the six Cemac states on the Treasury market organized by the BEAC amounted to FCFA 11,016.7 billion. At the same date, government bonds listed on the BVMAC in Douala stood at FCFA 935.2 billion, nearly twelve times less. The comparison, based on BEAC statistics published on November 2 and the BVMAC official market bulletin, concerns outstanding debt rather than new borrowing during the year. The BVMAC bond segment had total outstanding securities of FCFA 1,226.6 billion, including FCFA 935.2 billion in government bonds and FCFA 253.3 billion in bonds issued by the development bank.
