2027: Tinubu has lost touch with reality and is unaware he is president, Shaibu says

Phrank Shaibu, director of strategic communication for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council, accused President Bola Tinubu of being disconnected from Nigerians’ economic hardship. In an interview on ARISE News, he faulted Tinubu for blaming the opposition for hunger after three and a half years in office and said the president should take responsibility. Shaibu cited the removal of the petrol subsidy and rising university fees as factors worsening hardship for households and students.

Prince Epenge Barred from Leaving the Country as DGM Confiscates His Passport at N'djili

Prince Epenge, president of ADD Congo and a member of Lamuka and the Article 64 coalition, was unable to board a flight to Rome on October 25 with Martin Fayulu, ahead of an opposition meeting scheduled to begin Monday. At N'djili airport, Directorate General of Migration agents held their passports, then returned Fayulu’s, while preventing Epenge from travelling on the grounds that he had to answer a court summons he says he never received. The procedure is reportedly linked to the death of Manassé Lomboto, a young ADD Congo activist who died after being violently beaten during the coalition’s September 15 march in Kinshasa. The investigation is ongoing; the opposition alleges a trap, authorities reject the accusations, and the city’s official death toll lists no fatalities.

DRC: Government revives e-visa process, bids to be evaluated in early 2027

State Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner announced the revival of the e-visa process at the cabinet meeting chaired by Félix Tshisekedi in Kinshasa on October 23, 2026. The previous concession contract, signed in June 2024, was cancelled after a review found legal, financial and contractual shortcomings. Two technical workshops and a consolidation day are planned for mid-November to revise the specifications and set tariffs and a commercial and financial model. Bid evaluations are expected to begin in early 2027, as the government seeks to modernize and harmonize visa issuance, improve transparency and secure public revenue.

Burnham open to 'honest discussion' on EU free movement

Andy Burnham said he was open to an “honest discussion” about potentially restoring free movement between the UK and the European Union as part of a closer relationship, which could include joining the single market or the EU. He argued that migration today differs from the pre-Brexit pattern, while noting that any change would require an electoral mandate; Labour’s 2024 manifesto ruled out free movement and membership of the single market or customs union. Angela Rayner urged a pragmatic discussion of possible trade-offs, while Kemi Badenoch said the prime minister had not thought the issue through and Robert Jenrick called the idea “mad.” Burnham said he could not imagine recommending UK membership of the euro or Schengen, ahead of a European summit in Brussels on 20 November where the prime minister is expected to present options for resetting relations.
