Corruption and wasteful spending are killing development, Ekiti elders warn

The Ekiti Council of Elders condemned corruption, high governance costs and wasteful spending by political leaders, saying they are holding back Nigeria’s development. Speaking at a news conference in Ado-Ekiti, Bayo Orire said public spending has not delivered well-executed projects, adequate infrastructure, industries or meaningful agricultural development. He praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to decentralise security institutions and backed state police and community-based security groups. Council trustee chairman Olufemi Adewumi said the council aims to promote national unity and integrity through the second annual lecture honoring Joel Eyinafe Babatola.
