Mining marshals arrest 600 illegal miners, recover 100 sites

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reported the arrest of over 600 illegal miners and the recovery of more than 100 illegal mining sites since the establishment of the Mining Marshals unit in March 2024. Commander of the Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant Attah Onoja, emphasized that this initiative aims to combat illegal mining and diversify the Nigerian economy. He also noted that over 500 suspects are currently undergoing prosecution.
