Police warn politicians against destroying campaign materials

The Nigeria Police Force warned politicians and their supporters that tearing, defacing or unlawfully removing other candidates’ campaign materials is a criminal offence that can lead to prosecution. Police spokesperson CSP Aniete Iniedu said incidents were increasing ahead of the 2027 general elections. Inspector-General Olatunji Rilwan Disu directed commissioners in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to prevent such acts, investigate reports and arrest those responsible, including anyone shown to have encouraged or facilitated the destruction.
