Nuclear Weapons: Nigeria Clarifies Its Ambitions at the UN

Nigeria reaffirmed at the UN that it does not possess any nuclear weapons and has never pursued a program to manufacture them, according to Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim. The country prioritizes the peaceful use of nuclear technology and has institutions to monitor issues related to weapons of mass destruction. Abuja ratified the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in 1970 and strengthened its commitment against these weapons by ratifying the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in January 2021.
