Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has proposed legislation to phase out petrol-powered motorcycles in favor of electric alternatives in cities. During a meeting with President William Ruto, he emphasized that petrol motorcycles contribute to air pollution and public health issues. Nyong’o also called for incentives to assist motorcycle operators in transitioning to electric models. As of early 2026, there are over 33,000 electric motorcycles registered in Kenya.
