Trump invites Putin to Miami G20: Why that matters

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Washington has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami in December to promote talks on ending the Ukraine war. Rubio stated that the invitation provides Putin with an opportunity to engage with other world leaders. Putin, who has not visited mainland US since invading Ukraine in 2022, may attend his first in-person G20 summit since 2019.
