Former mayor, municipal manager and CFO arrested over alleged security contract kickbacks

A former Western Cape mayor, municipal manager, and CFO have been arrested in connection with a corruption scheme involving kickbacks related to a municipal security services contract. The South African Police Service arrested the three officials following an investigation into allegations that a businessman was pressured to pay kickbacks to retain his contract. The businessman reportedly paid hundreds of thousands of rands out of fear of losing the contract. They are scheduled to appear in court on October 5, 2026, facing corruption charges.
