Turkish and Somali forces freed the cargo ship MV Latuf, which was hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region. According to the Somali Ministry of Defence, 14 pirates were killed in the operation, which also resulted in the destruction of four of their boats. The MV Latuf, which left the Turkish port of Tekirdag in late July, was hijacked on August 17 and has since resumed its journey to Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.
