A Bangladeshi official dies of malaria after a mission in Yaoundé for the WTO

Mahbubur Rahman, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce of Bangladesh, died on April 17, 2026, in Dhaka from cerebral malaria diagnosed after returning from a mission in Yaoundé for the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference. He was hospitalized on April 13 due to a critical drop in blood platelets. His family stated that no health risk warnings about Cameroon were communicated to him before departure, despite the CDC's classification of Cameroon as a high malaria risk level 2.
