A record-breaking field: What to expect from Peru’s presidential election

On April 12, Peru will hold the first round of its presidential election, marking the election of a 10th president after a decade of political turmoil. Right-wing candidates like Keiko Fujimori are polling ahead, but the electoral landscape is fragmented with many candidates and a large number of undecided voters. If no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote, a second round will take place on June 7.
