Philip Young, 50, a former Conservative councillor for Swindon, pleaded guilty on January 23, 2026, to 48 serious sexual offences against his former wife, Joanne Young. The jury at Winchester Crown Court heard that he allegedly drugged her and enabled strangers to assault her between 2010 and 2023, presenting the events as a shared fantasy. The admitted offences include 11 rapes and 14 counts of voyeurism; Young also distributed more than 500 intimate images and videos of his wife without her consent. Five other men are being prosecuted in the case, with their trial scheduled for October 5; two have pleaded not guilty to rape.

Akinlosotu described the Minna detention facility as deplorable, unhealthy, inhumane and overcrowded. He called for the committee’s recommendations to be fully implemented and for those found responsible to be punished, citing systemic underfunding as a factor in the crisis.
