Venus Williams suffers 16th consecutive defeat with loss to teenager

Venus Williams suffered her 16th consecutive singles defeat on Tuesday, losing to Austria’s Lilli Tagger at the Guangzhou Open in China. The 46-year-old American fell 6-2, 6-2 to the 18-year-old, who is ranked 53rd in the world. The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion, now ranked 599th, has not won a singles match on the WTA Tour since July last year. Williams did win her doubles match in Guangzhou on Monday with Indonesia’s Janice Tjen.
