Abbas loyalists sweep Palestinian elections, including some seats in Gaza

Loyalists of President Mahmoud Abbas won most races in Palestinian municipal elections, held for the first time in nearly two decades in Gaza. The elections took place amid exceptional circumstances, following Israel's war against Palestinians that began in October 2023. Although Hamas boycotted the vote, some candidates in Deir el-Balah were seen as aligned with the movement, potentially indicating support for it.
