Abdul El-Sayed did not have to become less Muslim to win

Physician and former Detroit health director Abdul El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s Senate race. He will be the first Muslim ever elected to the United States Senate. Bilal Irfan, a Muslim American from Michigan, describes following El-Sayed’s work with the community, from his 2018 gubernatorial campaign to local town halls and mosque sermons. El-Sayed pledged to fight for all Michiganders and continued responding personally to community members during the campaign.
