Abia govt warns residents against possible flooding, reactivates emergency committees

Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Ogbonna, announced on Thursday proactive measures in response to predictions of abnormal rainfall for 2026. Local emergency committees across all 17 local government areas have been activated to coordinate responses and minimize the impact of possible flooding. Ogbonna urged residents to remain vigilant, clean drainage channels, and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal that blocks storm water flow.
